The Road That Never Was
The motor show closed at ten. By midnight the Bravo was on the Champs-Élysées.
Paris, lit up for a car it has never heard of.
Montmartre before the cafés open. The Bravo got there first.
Coffee, a croissant, and a prototype parked where the waiter can see it.
The Hall of Mirrors. Nobody remembers opening the doors.
Leaving Paris along the Seine, one last look back.
Between the vines, the road narrows to one car wide.
A table at the edge of the road. Fifty years late, and right on time.
